Bishop’s Visit
This past weekend, the city of Kansas City received a Christmas present in the form of His Grace our Bishop Longin, of the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitanate of New Gracanica and the Mid-West.
Arriving in the arctic temperatures, he served the Divine Liturgy at St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church on Saturday Jan.9th. He was accompanied by local priests, Fr. Paisius Altschul and Fr. Justin Mathews of St. Mary’s, Fr. Mihailo Mikic of St. Michael’s and Fr. Elias Issa of St. Basil’s both in Kansas City, Kansas. Also serving were Fr. Deacons Theodore Nickelsson of Ava, Missouri and Nikolaj Kostur accompanying His Grace.
At the beginning of the service, he ordained Tikhon Flores and Michael/Mihailo Wilson first as Readers, and then as Subdeacons. Towards the end of the service, he ordained Subdeacon Theophan Frazier to the Deaconate.
Friends, family and church members braved the cold and snow, to witness this graced filled occasion of the ordination of our brothers in Christ.
Saturday night His Grace attended Vespers at St. George.
Sunday morning at St. Archangel Michael’s, to a congregation full of eager faces, His Grace again served the Divine Liturgy, and ordained to the Deaconate Mihailo Wilson. Fr. Deacon Mihailo and Josephina’s addition to the family at St. Archangel Michael’s, has and will be a blessing to all, as it was at St. Mary’s.
It was a wonderful weekend to experience the grace and humility which our Bishop holds and disperses. He is truly a monk, a priest and a Hierarch. We are very grateful for his prayers and care for us in the Orthodox Church.
